Vesicants or Blistering agents caused any tissue they came into contact with to blister. Mustard Gases Mustard Gases were used mostly to harass
soldiers, but could be fatal at large enough doses. When inhaled, Mustard gas
destroyed lung tissue through blistering. Mustard gas was persistent, making an
area unsafe to enter for weeks after its use.

The Vesicant used in WW1 were Sulfur Mustard and Ethyl Dichloroarsine. Towards the end of the war, Lewisite was developed by the Americans, but the Armistice meant it was never used.
